Jack Randall, an outlaw from the days of the western frontier, is known throughout the land as Muerte, or Death. On his way to see an old friend about getting a place to stay during an oncoming storm he is attacked by a strange, little girl.

What he least expects to happen, let alone accept, is the position of sherriff that is slapped on him. Now he is fighting for the lives of the town's folk of Canyon City from bandits, raiders, and a few fellow outlaws that are looking for more than just revenge.
